Bargaining Update 1/16/2025

It has been a busy week for your bargaining team.  We had a bargaining session on 1/13/25 and 1/16/25 as well as our regular Tuesday night meeting on 1/14/25.

At our bargaining session on Monday, Dr Don Tran joined us which was heartening to see.  Management provided us with multiple non-economic proposals.  They were:

-Union rights

-Management rights

-Corrective action

-Employment status

-Seniority, Layoff, and Recall

-Grievance Procedure

-Arbitration

-Equal Employment Opportunity

-Health and Safety

-Savings and Separability

-Drug and Alcohol Policy

-Successors

-Working Outside the Bargaining Unit

-Complete Agreement

There were other articles, but they are just placeholders for now. These proposals are focused on the doctors rather than the APP’s (though we are still trying to keep everything the same for both bargaining groups as is reasonable).  It is essentially the hospitalists’ proposals and was presented as a complete package or they will have us negotiate each article.

Of these articles, we decided to look at Management Rights, Corrective Action, Seniority Layoff and Recall, and Employment Status more closely for our meeting Tuesday night.  Everything else looked to be reasonable, but we will continue to review those sections.

Fun fact-AI can be really useful in analyzing proposals.  Also different AI’s will provide different analyses so using more than one is useful.

We had a lot of discussion about these articles and fundamentally we cannot agree to them as written.  We have questions.  We also need more clarification, particularly around management rights, what do they mean by an individual contract, and how does management plan to calculate what a month’s salary is in terms of severance.  We presented our general concerns as well as some specifics.  We have not presented anything in writing as we are still crafting those proposals.  The process is likely going to slow down as we go through these articles and negotiate them.  There is the possibility that we may need to negotiate each article separately.  We shall see.  We meet again on January 30th so we will be spending our time getting our proposals together.

Of note, if people are having issues with getting time off for necessary events like appointments, then please let us know.  We are gathering instances where people are told no or told they had to make up time or had to take a whole day off for an hour appointment.  Specifics are appreciated.  Feel free to email legacypcpunion@gmail.com or let any of your bargaining team know.

Thanks for reading.
